Senior Accountant

Office Location:

Columbia, MD

Summary Description:

This position is a remote opportunity, with office space at our Columbia, MD main office available as desired.

The ideal candidate will have 5-7 years of hands-on, accounting operations experience to include “full-cycle" A/P, A/R-Billing, Job Cost Accounting, financial statements, bank reconciliations, and monthly closing.

The duties of this position include but are not limited to:

  • Maintaining complete control of the balance sheet
  • Creating job cost and contract reporting for Government contracts
  • Being responsible for timing and quality of closing process/cycle, preparing complex financial reporting
  • Preparing and reviewing monthly financials and reporting packages to include forecast schedules and dashboards
  • Conducting research & analysis, billed and unbilled receivable analysis and revenue recognition
  • Developing and managing indirect rate structures, assists with the preparation of budgets, forecasts, incurred cost submissions, and other duties as required, handles inquiries and information requests
  • Serving as a resource to others in the resolution of complex problems
  • Supporting assigned clients with cost-effective, accurate, and compliant accounting services at an advanced level
  • Managing relationships with clients and auditors
  • Tasking and deliverables handled with little to no direct supervision

Experience working for or with government contractors and Unanet, CostPoint, and/or Quickbooks is required. This is a great opportunity for a highly motivated individual. We seek a results-oriented, energetic person with superior accounting skills.

Qualified candidates will have the following characteristics:

  • 5-7 years of progressive accounting experience required; proficiency with general ledger, job costing, and GAAP compliance is a must
  • Highly organized. Tedious about record-keeping, file organization, etc.
  • Able to manage and ensure the quality of work of support staff
  • Able to handle competing deliverables with various levels of complexity.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Travel to customer locations required for customers in the local area
  • Extremely computer literate, strong MS Excel, MS Word skills are a must. Experience with Office 365 is a plus
  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects within cost and schedule
  • Strong problem-solving aptitude required; must be able to analyze client needs & leverage accounting systems effectively to create value for customers
  • Motivated – A self-starter with the ability to multi-task, problem solves, and takes initiative
  • Strong understanding of Government contracting including compliance with the FAR, DCAA Compliance, and indirect rates
