GovCon Controller/Project Director

We are looking for a Controller in our GovCon practice to provide hands-on administration, oversight, and guidance to clients in Washington metropolitan area.  The Controller will manage client relationships, deliverables, and schedules and lead a group providing full accounting and forecasting support.  He or she will ensure compliance with GAAP, FAR, and DCAA procedures and standards.

Summary Description:

Applies advanced accounting skills to perform and/or oversee routine and non-routine tasks involving the processing and reconciliation of receivables, billing, payroll, accounts payable, contract revenue calculations, contract cost accumulation and reporting, indirect rate calculations, fixed assets, general ledger, preparing financial statements, and supporting compliance audits. The role includes:

  • Managing accounting services for assigned clients; responsible for project management of accounting schedule; manages CPA audits
  • Maintains complete control of the balance sheet
  • Develops indirect rate structures, budgets, forecasts, incurred cost submissions, and general ledger; prepares monthly financial statements and variance analysis; troubleshoots system errors; sets up pools
  • Brief clients on results, forecasts, and opportunities for improvement. Help CEOs with decision-making in providing financial outcomes for alternative scenarios.

Strong experience working for or with government contractors and expertise with Deltek Costpoint, Unanet, or PROCAS is desired. This position will be located in Columbia, Maryland, and is responsible for handling a significant volume of activity.  This is a great opportunity for the highly motivated individual. Qualified candidates will have the following characteristics:

  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience required; proficiency with general ledger, job costing, GAAP compliance a must
  • Highly organized. Tedious about record-keeping, file organization, etc. 
  • Able to handle competing deliverables with various levels of complexity.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to manage and ensure the quality of work of support staff
  • Travel to customer locations required in the Washington Metropolitan area
  • Extremely computer literate, strong MS Excel, MS Word skills are a must. 
  • Motivated – A self-starter with the ability to multi-task, problem-solve, and take initiative.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects within cost and schedule.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting required, and CPA desired.
  • Understanding of Government contracting, including demonstrated expertise with FAR compliance and indirect rates.
